What we offer

We are still getting to know our new location, so hacking out is currently limited. We have installed a new floodlit outdoor school so lessons have resumed as normal. Pony Club will be back up and running soon. Much to parents relief, pony days are back in action throughout the school holidays. Follow our Instagram page @cotswoldriding to stay up to date with our developments.

Riding lessons

All of our instructors are experienced, qualified and friendly. They also like to ensure you are progressing at a reasonable pace and will not attempt to hold you back. They will remember you, who you have ridden and what level you are at, each time you come back, so you can get the most out of your experience.

Lessons and hacking are available all year round. Lessons can be taken as private, semi private or in groups (3-6 people). We are happy to teach children from the age of 3+. We have a weight limit of 15 stones max. Weekends can be particularly busy and we advise to book in advance to avoid dissapointment. Our diary is flexible and we will endeavour to book you in at a time that is most convenient for you. Evening lessons are available throughout the summer months. We reserve the right to postpone lessons in times of bad weather and ask that you give 24 hours notice prior to any cancellation.

Please note all new riders will be asked to complete a rider registration form. See our price list for more details on lessons. Bookings and enquiries can be made over the phone 07508 773255.

Hacking out

We are new to the area so hacking out is currently limited to some very picturesque one hour road rides. We are working with local landowners to expand our routes to include more countryside views. Hacks can be taken privately or in groups of up to 4 dependent on your experience.

Hacking out (trekking) is priced seperately for children and adults, unlike lessons, where as everyone receives the same level of tuition based on their ability. We offer reduced hacking out prices for children 16 years and under, although children will need closer supervision, we like to make this option more affordable for parents. Please note: although our horses and ponies are reliable and safe, if you are a beginner, we will need to assess your ability before we send you out into the wilderness.

Please contact us to discuss how we can make this option available for you!

Pony days / mornings

Pony days are a great way to get your kids active outdoors. They will spend the day learning how to care for a pony as if it were their own. As well as learning to ride, children will be taught how to love and respect their pony too. During the day your child will take part in activities such as riding lessons, stable management, tack cleaning and grooming. We often have large groups of children in attendance at the stables who love being outdoors with the ponies and making new friends. We offer two time options, the morning lasts from 10am-1pm and is more suitable for younger children. The day lasts from 10am-4pm and we ask that you supply your own packed lunch. Please see our price list for more details.

Pat and her team are dedicated to safeguarding and protecting children at the farm. As such, our senior staff members are all DBS checked, appropriately trained and hold current First Aid certificates, so you can feel safe leaving your children in our care.

Our diary is flexible, so if you have a morning or day you'd like to free up during the holidays or weekends get in touch. We'll keep the kids happy for you!

Loan a horse or pony

The horses and ponies of Upper Woodhills Farm are our pride and joy. We have an impressive portfolio of steeds available to take on loan and will create the perfect environment for you to create special bonds with them. Whether you want to help your child fulfil their dream of having a pony or simply want to pursue your own dream of owning a horse we want to hear from you.

Loans work on a six month basis where the cost to you would be the livery per month plus shoeing. We can explain this thoroughly either over the phone or in person where we can discuss which horse or pony would be the right fit for you. Theres a great atmosphere in our yard and there are always people around to chat to or help you with anything you need. Children and adults who take a pony or horse on loan are free to love and care for them as often as they can. For the rest of the time we take care of them for you. Children can gain membership to our Pony Club and get involved with all activities such as; summer camps, shows, fun rides and events. The riding school is bustling with activity at the weekends with most of our Pony Club members in attendance, which creates fantastic opportunities to make new friends. Soon we will be establishing an adult riding club and we already have a fantastic group of ladies and gents who enjoy riding out together regularly.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss this option further!

Birthday & hen parties

For Birthday parties, we can cater for up to 14 children. The focus will entirely be on having fun. We will arrange appropriate games for the children, dependant on their ages, to partake in both on and off the ponies. The party will last for 3 hours and will inlcude a break in the middle for lunch. We have a lovely log cabin where the children can play and have lunch during the winter months whilst they are not riding.

Hen Parties have been very entertaining at the stables. Its a great way to get some colour in your cheeks and have a ruddy good laugh with your girls. The party will be relaxed and fun, for approx 4 hours, and involve a riding lesson and team games. Fancy dress encouraged!
